Mission Statement

The mission of the School of Library and Information Science is to educate students for careers and leadership roles in library and information professions that serve the needs of a culturally diverse, technological society; to contribute to the body of theoretical and applied knowledge in the discipline; and to serve current and emerging needs in the University, the community, and the profession.

The M.A. program in Library and Information Science has been continuously accredited by the American Library Association since 1975. Graduates are prepared to assume a wide variety of service and leadership positions in libraries and information centers. In order to attend the needs of our students, courses are offered at a number of sites, including Tampa, Orlando, Sarasota, Jacksonville, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Brevard County, and Miami. Courses are also offered via the Internet using the World Wide Web and electronic mail.

2009 Alice G. Smith Lecture

The University of South Florida School of Library and Information Science Annual Alice G. Smith Lecture, Induction of New Beta Phi Mu Members, and Acknowledgment of the Spring 2010 Scholarship Recipients will be held on Thursday, 3rd of December, 2009 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the Traditions Hall Room at the USF Gibbons Alumni Center. Special Guest Speaker: Dr. John Budd. There will be a plated dinner. Tickets are $10.00.
